Gunpowder Plot Day

Discover how the Manor House’s family were involved in the Gunpowder Plot, with costumed characters;

Morning session begins in the Kitchen at 11:15 am

Afternoon session begins in the Kitchen at 2.00 pm

Scene 1: Plotters meet in the Kitchen
Activity: Gunpowder Demo on Lawn

Scene 2: Monteagles Letter in the Great Chamber
Activity: Finding Guy Fawkes

Scene 3: Holbeach House & Shootout on Lawn

Scene 4: Plotters tried in Court in the Great Chamber

*This is the running order of each session, there may be slight time gaps between scenes. Each session is approx. 1 hour 30 mins

Gunpowder Plot Crafts running all day in the Barn and don’t forget to visit our Maze!

Tea rooms open for light snacks and refreshments 11.00 am to 3.00 pm.

    Discover how Christmas was celebrated in times gone by! The 1620s House & Garden will be beautifully dressed in Jacobean style decor. See how preparations were made to celebrate the full twelve days of Christmas by the Digby Family.

    Join in with festive carols and a mummers play, talk to costumed volunteers about food and feasting, Christmas customs, keeping warm in winter in the days before central heating and all the jobs that had to be done to ensure the holy season ran smoothly.

    What’s more, there’ll be festive crafts in the barn and a children’s trail to enjoy!

    Normal Admission plus £2. No need to pre-book, just come along on the day.
