The 1620s House and Garden invites you to attend our Hello Heritage Open Day, running as part of a wider, Northwest Leicestershire campaign. Discover this Heritage gem located in the heart of Leicestershire.

• Free entry to our incredible 17th Century house to learn about its rich history:
  • learn how its former inhabitants were connected to the Gunpowder Plot, marvel at the bed where King Richard III was rumoured to have slept and learn how the house and its inhabitants were protected from evil spirits. To really see the history of the house come to life, take a guided tour with one of our enthusiastic volunteers!

• Wander through our tranquil gardens and orchard
  • You will find plants, herbs and vegetables that are grown authentically- just like when the house was in use. Our garden volunteers will also be on hand to answer any green-thumbed questions you might have.

• From Pattens to Clogs
  • A fascinating, fully interpreted exhibition of wooden-soled footwear through history, ranging from the 18th to the 20th century. Learn about the different components which make up a shoe while learning how clogs became so important during the Industrial Revolution!

• ‘Guess the object’
  • 10 mystery farming items can be found around the site- can you use the multiple-choice cards to work out what the item might have been used for?

• Traditional outdoor games
  • Coconut shy, Traditional nine-pin skittles, Wooden balls in a bucket, Bowls and Quoits.

• Recharge in our unique Barn café
  • Relax with a drink and a slice of homemade cake!

• Heritage Skills
  •  See how domestic textile, spinning and knitting skills of the 17th century are still being used today. The Ladies of the Jacobean Craft Group, based at the House, meet monthly to sew, knit and spin, making costume and other items for the House.
