Authentically restored property with great tour guides

My wife and I spent a glorious week exploring Leicestershire and one of the highlights was our visit to this property.
The house has been authentically restored and the tour was made extremely interesting by our guide, Carol, who interacted so well with the visitors and offered many anecdotes.
I would highly recommend a visit to this wonderful property.

A lovely, welcoming historic house and garden

A group of about 10 of us turned up for a visit and the lady in the ticket kiosk kindly arranged impromptu tours of the gardens and house for us. Both the guides were brilliant, informative, and friendly, pointing out details that we would otherwise have missed. The whole place is very welcoming and beautifully restored and maintained. It is lovely that you can handle most of the items on display and the detailed information about the plants in the garden was impressive. […] It is also remarkably good value for money as we can use our tickets to return within the next 12 months. The café was nice too, with a good selection of homemade cakes. A great place to spend a few hours.

Excellent historical gem!

Big thanks to Michael and Steve for their very informative tours of the garden and house. Their knowledge and ability to set this lovely house and garden in its historical context was excellent.
The homemade soup and variety of home-baked cakes make this little gem well worth future visits.

Fantastic little gem of history

Fantastic little gem of history! Well worth a visit with activities for children. The house has been set out in the era of the 17th Century with lots of knowledgeable volunteers who are passionate about the history and the historic building. Thoroughly enjoyed our visit today and we will back. Thank you all involved.

Great day out at the 1620s House

We had a really enjoyable day despite the damp weather. Our guide, Steve, was brilliant, very engaging with an absolute wealth of information. The gardens were also very interesting and so well cared for by the volunteers. Good to see so many information plaques describing the plants and their uses. Lunch of hearty vegetable soup and bread was just right, and the cakes were also delicious! Would definitely go back again.

Great visit

Firstly, parking is free. The gardens are lovely, well laid out and the labels in the garden beds are informative and amusing. The café has some amazing cakes, I can recommend the lime cake.
Now the house… Beautifully restored and fitted out. It’s great to have some things you can touch and interact with.
The staff are VERY friendly and helpful and our guide (Ros) was amazing. She knew so much about the house and the Digby family and made the experience fun and informative. I now know the origins of “sleep tight”, “chairman of the board” and “upper crust”.
I would definitely recommend this place.
