Walk around a Jacobean family home
The House is fully furnished in an early 17th century style and tells the story of its former owners and residents. Each room is full of everyday items that you can touch and explore.
Our knowledgeable house interpretation volunteers will provide you with a full tour of the house and will answer any questions you may have, or if you would rather go on a self guided tour, there are boards with detailed descriptions in every room.
A rare and beautiful house
This beautiful House is a rare surviving example of a family home built in the 13th century and then modernised in 1618.
The House has been home to many families over its 700-year history. Most famous is the Digby family, who lived in the house for over two hundred years. Their most well-known relative was the Gunpowder Plotter Sir Everard Digby.
We decided to furnish the House as it may have been during the period towards the end of the Digby ownership. Because of this, the presentation of the House shows how people lived in late Elizabethan and early Jacobean times.
Restored period rooms
Visitors can walk through the beautifully restored period rooms and enjoy a tour with one of our knowledgeable volunteers. They will bring the history of the House, the families that lived here, and the 1620s in general to life.
The House is also set in beautiful 17th century-style gardens. Carefully tended and labelled plants and flowers, an orchard, herb gardens and a small maze all complement this special House.
